As the entire world is waiting for Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked to begin so that the South Korean based tech giant can reveal its next-generation flagships, Google is secretly adding the finishing touches to its own smartphones. The Android parent has made it a tradition to release downgraded versions of its latest flagships in order to make them accessible to everyone. The smartphones that Google is planning to launch are called Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a XL. Luckily for us and other Google fans, the code names for the upcoming smartphones have been leaked.
The History of Google Smartphone Codenames
Before we present the codenames for Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a XL, we want to highlight their importance. The Android parent has been using fish codenames for its smartphones ever since the Nexus lineup. The codenames do more than simply acknowledge the existence of the upcoming smartphones, they also show us some of their most important features.
Bramble, Sunfish and Redfin
The fish codenames that Google is using for its upcoming devices are bramble, sunfish and redfin. We know for certain that two of the smartphones are Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a XL. We have no information about the third device. Another interesting that we want to mention, is that Mishaal Rahman of XDA Developers have figured out what specs the two smartphones will have to offer.
Mid-Range Processors and 5G Technology
Mishaal Rahman accessed hidden information on Google’s Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and he managed to find out that the two smartphones will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 730 CPUs. The latter is a mid-range processor that is used on smartphones that are just below the flagship level. On the other hand, we have the Snapdragon 765 which is powerful and it ships with supports for 5G connectivity.
